Meet Dane Swanson
Owner-Operator and Certified Arborist at Wild Geese Tree Care
Dane Swanson is the owner-operator and certified arborist behind Wild Geese Tree Care. His work is rooted in field experience, curiosity, and a strong interest in how trees grow, respond to pruning, and change over time. He stays involved from the first look at a tree through the finished work, giving him a close view of the questions people ask and the decisions that shape good tree care.
For Dane, tree work is not just about making cuts or removing a problem tree. It is about understanding what is happening, explaining the options clearly, and doing work he is comfortable putting his name on.
What Dane Brings to the Tree
Dane handles a wide range of tree-care needs, from routine pruning to removals and storm damage.
His experience includes:
- Tree pruning and trimming
- Formative and structural pruning
- Tree removal
- Large and technical removals
- Storm damage and hazardous trees
- Fruit tree pruning
- Tree support systems
- Tree health concerns
He is an ISA Certified Arborist and also holds Wilderness First Responder, Wildland Fire Red Card, and CPR/First Aid credentials.
Dane’s interest in trees goes beyond the work happening on a property. He has published peer-reviewed work related to wildlife conservation and tree care, and he pays close attention to how Oregon white oak, Douglas fir, bigleaf maple, ash, alder, pine, and other Pacific Northwest species grow and change over time.
How Dane Thinks Through a Tree Problem
Dane does not start with the assumption that a tree needs the biggest possible job. He looks at what is actually happening first. Is the tree structurally sound? Is a branch creating a real clearance issue? Can pruning solve the concern without removing too much live growth? Would removal make more sense?
That same approach carries into the conversations he has with homeowners. People often call because a branch failed, the top of a tree is dying back, or a limb is getting too close to a roof or vehicle. Dane wants the recommendation to match the problem. If pruning is enough, he says so. If removal makes more sense, he explains why.
Staying Connected From the Estimate to the Finished Work
Dane remains involved from the estimate through completion, so the concern discussed at the beginning of a job stays connected to the work being done in the tree. That continuity is a big part of how he runs Wild Geese Tree Care.
His curiosity also carries into his writing. Dane has written about pruning and trunk stability, Western redcedar decline, invasive beetles, wildlife, and seasonal tree care. He keeps asking questions, learning from what he sees, and sharing that knowledge with others.
As Dane puts it, “The work is literally my signature.” That line captures how personally he takes both the finished work and the relationships built around it.
About Wild Geese Tree Care
Wild Geese Tree Care serves Eugene and communities throughout the Southern Willamette Valley. The work includes tree pruning, tree removal, emergency tree care, storm cleanup, fruit tree care, support systems, and other tree services. The company is licensed in Oregon, bonded, and insured, with a certified arborist handling or overseeing tree service work.
He keeps the experience personal. Dane stays connected to the work, takes time to talk through what he sees, and prefers thoughtful recommendations over pushing more tree work than a property needs.
That matters because tree care is not always a yes-or-no decision. A mature tree may need pruning, more clearance, closer attention to its structure, or simply a better understanding of what is changing. He looks at the whole situation and explains the options so the work fits both the tree and the property.
